Trials of the Taker
Trials of the Taker represents my first attempt at developing a game in the puzzle/exploration genre. It began as an exercise for me to improve my skill with Unreal, specifically to get better at triggering events with listeners, event dispatchers and interfaces. As I got more comfortable with those systems I found that I was really inspired and excited to try to bring the project to life as a fully functioning experience for others to enjoy.

Though the full game is still a work in progress, I've uploaded a free playable demo of the entire first level to Steam. The demo features a save and load system, an in game menu, animated introduction sequence, and many other aspects that contribute to a complete experience.

I specifically tried to touch on almost every element of similar games that I'm familiar with (i.e. animation, fractures and in game physics, grabbing objects, line traces, etc.) so that I could get more experience and build confidence with those elements of game design.

Trials was developed with a combination of C++ and Blueprint. The puzzles are difficult, and (hopefully) fun to solve. I incorporated an in-game hint system to try to counter-balance the general lack of hand-holding. Players have the option of using it if they feel stuck but can choose not to if they enjoy the challenge.

Feel free to use the Steam link below to download the demo and experience it for yourself!
